Gene Therapy
Tulane University Health Sciences Center's Strategic Plan for the Year 2000 identified
gene therapy as one of two important new areas of development.
Gene Therapy Research Labs
Currently in the final stages of construction, this 14,000-square-foot facility
will provide "cutting edge" research space along with a "GMP" (good manufacturing
process) lab.

The Gene Therapy Initiative is a joint partnership
effort led by Louisianašs two major medical centers, Tulane and LSU in New Orleans
and Shreveport, that will draw upon and complement the strengths of other statewide
efforts.
A Vision of Partnership
The initiative was inaugurated by the passage of Senate Concurrent Resolution
23 during the 1998 Legislative session, which created the Gene Therapy Research
Task Force. The Task Force is studying the feasibility of developing a nationally
prominent gene therapy research center.
