American Medical Student Association – Tulane Chapter
AMSA is the largest completely student-led medical organization in the
country. At Tulane, AMSA is committed to pursuing a member-determined
agenda
of political and social activism in both the local New Orleans community
and
on
a broader national level.
WHAT DOES AMSA DO AT TULANE?
- Member Education -
AMSA sponsors activities each month focusing on current issues
that
are
important to how students will learn and practice medicine. Guest
lecturers,
panel discussions and community service activities will center on topics
like
Universal Health Care, HIV/AIDS awareness, and Activism in Medicine.
- Community Service -
Once a semester AMSA organizes and hosts a Health Fair in an
underserved New Orleans community. The Health Fairs provide individuals
in
these communities an opportunity to undergo health screenings and
receive
vital
information about healthy lifestyle choices. AMSA also sponsors the
Kingsley
House tutoring program.
