| March 2005 Residents in Psychiatry and Neurology Land Prestigious National Awards Nine residents in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, one post-doctoral fellow and two junior faculty members have received significant national awards since July 1 st, 2004. While these individuals are to be commended for their achievements, their training director and/or mentor should also be acknowledged for their support of these trainees and the strong letters of recommendation written on their behalf. So, first let me give special thanks to Patrick O'Neill, M.D., Anne Foundas, M.D., and Brian Stafford, M.D. for their role in making this happen.
Stacy Drury, M.D., Ph.D. (General and Child Psychiatry) was recently awarded the APA/Shire Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship for 2005-2006. In addition, she was named as one of the NIMH Outstanding Psychiatry Residents for 2004. Furthermore, she was granted a Janssen Resident Psychiatric Research Scholars Award from the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education for 2005 and 2006. Morgan Feibelman, M.D. (Child Psychiatry) was named a Fellow of the Child and Adolescent Psychopathology Research Initiative which is supported by the Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Mary Margaret Gleason, M.D. (Infant Psychiatry Fellow and Instructor in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry) was granted a Fellowship for the NIMH/Stanford/UPitt Research Development Institute which includes mentorship and collaboration on developing a research career. In addition, she was named one of the "Future Leaders in Psychiatry for 2005" and given a Travel Award from Emory University to attend their special program for early career psychiatrists. Terry LeBourgeois, M.D. (Adult Psychiatry) was also granted one of these "Future Leaders in Psychiatry" Travel Awards. Andrew Morson, M.D. (General Psychiatry) and Angela Traylor, M.D. (Psych/Neuro) were each given a Training Residents in Psychiatry Scholarship (TRIPS) Award from the Veterans Administration South Central Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center. Jeffrey Rouse, M.D. (General Psychiatry and Neuroscience Fellow) was given a Janssen Resident Psychiatric Research Scholars Award from the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education (APIRE). This allows him to participate in APIRE's Research Colloquium for Young Investigators at the APA meetings in 2004 and 2005. Furthermore, he was granted a Trainee Travel Award to attend and participate in the 2005 annual meeting of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America. Shelly Savant, M.D. (Psych/Neuro) was granted a Travel Award from the American Pain Society, which will allow her to travel to their annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts from March 31st to April 2nd, 2005. Prachi Shah, M.D. (Instructor and Fellow in Infant & Early Childhood Psychiatry), was recently selected as a Solnit Fellow (2005-2006) of Zero to Three: National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families. Linda Soohoo, M.D. (Med/Neuro) was granted one of the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Awards by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation in recognition of her commitment towards compassionate patient care and teaching of students. Jose Suros, M.D. (Neurology) was granted a Travel Award from the Wake Forest Residents Epilepsy Program to attend their meeting. LaShondra Washington, M.D. (General Psychiatry) was selected as an APA/Astra Zeneca Minority Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association for 2004 and 2005. Janet Zadina, Ph.D. (PostDoctoral Fellow in Behavioral Neurology) was given the Pi Delta Kappa’s Region C Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation. In addition, she was the Summit Plenary Speaker Awardee at the "Celebrating Our Rising Stars" meeting of the Office of English Language Acquisition sponsored by the Department of Education in Washington, DC.
