Predoctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology |
Supervision/MentorshipThe psychology intern will participate in a variety of supervision experiences during the internship year. Each intern will be assigned a primary mentor at the beginning of the year; this mentor serves as an advisor to the intern throughout the year and offers continued assistance to the intern in achieving their training goals and needs. The mentor is well acquainted with all training opportunities and sites, and helps the intern make decisions about electives, conferences, etc. that will enhance the intern's training experience. The mentor can also advise the intern should any special needs or problems arise, and will aid in the transition from internship to post-doctoral positions or employment. The intern is also assigned a primary clinical supervisor at the beginning of the training year. This supervisor will provide supervision at the initial rotation site and offers special assistance to the intern during orientation to the program. The intern also has additional designated supervisors at all other sites of training. At each site, the intern receives a minimum of one hour per week of one-to-one supervision from the supervisor. The intern may have several supervisors at a time and thus can receive several hours a week of individual supervision. Supervision is also provided upon intern request, or if needed, in addition to the scheduled sessions. Certain training settings also employ group consultation and supervision. The supervisors are licensed full-time psychology faculty members assigned to several of the primary rotation sites. The intern will have the opportunity to work with other disciplines (e.g., psychiatrists, social workers, etc.). These opportunities are offered in training sites (e.g., pediatricians with Pediatric Psychiatry Liaison, psychiatrists with Infant Team Program, etc.). While all sites have psychologist faculty members, these opportunities to work with other disciplines offer additional diverse supervision and training experiences. 6/23/08 Philosophy
