| As a guide, we have prepared a suggested study schedule based on the core pediatric curriculum. This schedule is divided into two areas: General topics and Organ-based signs and symptoms. Different knowledge domains are highlighted during each week. The order of these knowledge domains generally parallels the order of topics presented in the noon lecture series. Preceptors are also encouraged to take this schedule into considerations when presenting cases to the group or assigning topics for presentation by individual students. Please note that the list of signs and symptoms included on the schedule is not complete. You should refer to the section on “Common Problems” in the core curriculum for more detailed lists.
The second part of the suggested study schedule is a list of recommended readings corresponding to the individual knowledge domains listed in the schedule. We recommend that every student have a general pediatric textbook to serve as their primary source of general information about Pediatrics (See resources). This same recommendation has been shared by many clerkships directors on the COMSEP web site. The list of suggested readings includes page references for a few of the most popular textbooks. It is usually sufficient to read about a particular topic from one textbook. For example, although the suggested study schedule lists page numbers for three textbooks along side of the Growth and Development topic, it is not necessary to read about Growth and Development in each of the texts by Nelson, Rudolph, and Finberg. If you find any discrepancies or inconsistencies in the page numbers listed for any text and the corresponding topic, please let Dr. Davis or Karen Rachal know.
