| Tulane University Medical Center's pathology training program is organized to provide its residents with the strongfoundation in modern pathology upon which to build a career. The program is designed to provide the necessary skills for pathologists to enter either community practice or an academic career. The basic fully-accredited program combines training in anatomic and clinical pathology using the three-year core curriculum. Straight AP or CP tracks are also available. The credentialing or fifth year is tailored to the individual career goals for each resident. While the core training in anatomic and clinical pathology is established to meet the guidelines of the Residency Review Committee in Pathology, the program is flexible with several elective rotations. The schedule is developed with each resident and may include emphasis in particular service areas or research. |

| The faculty devotes much time to the teaching of residents. While providing sound and personalized instruction in all areas of pathology, the educational experience is designed for the resident to assume progressively increasing responsibility for service work performed. This allows a smooth transition from training to private practice or an academic position. Residents actively participate in interdepartmental and intradepartmental conferences by preparing, presenting anddiscussing interesting cases or new developments. In addition, upper level residents are given teaching responsibilities in the sophomore pathology course in order to prepare them for the educational role they will assume. Research opportunities at Tulane are plentiful. Research experiences are encouraged during service rotations and asintensive full-time electives. Well established laboratories in immunopathology, electron microscopy, morphometry, flow cytometry, and experimental and molecular pathology give the resident or fellow a wide array of research areas toexplore. |
