| The Tulane Pathology Residency Training Program utilizes the abundant and diverse clinical material of both the renowned Charity Hospital of New Orleans and the modern and rapidly expanding Tulane Medical Center Hospital and Clinic. Collectively, both institutions access almost 20,000 surgical specimens, over 30,000 cytology specimens, over eight million clinical laboratory determinations and over 200 autopsies each year. This, combined with individual faculty member consultation case material, gives our residents the widest possible exposure to pathology material. Tulane's 300-bed hospital houses new clinical laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and laboratory information system. The 700-bed Charity Hospital, a tertiary referral center for eight other Louisiana public hospitals, handles some 12,000 emergent cases each month and is a Level I trauma center. Throughout both institutions, pathology residents interact regularly with residents in all other medical specialties via interdepartmental conferences and consultations. | |||||||||
