Mission

To provide rapid and high quality diagnostic histopathology on gastrointestinal endoscopic biopsies and liver biopsies enabling clinicians to provide the best patient care. Dr. Salima Haque, Dr. John Krause and a dedicated team of technical and administrative staff support this goal.

Pathologists

Salima Haque, M.D. is a gastrointestinal and liver pathologist with over 12 years experience in this field. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver pathology from Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT in 1992. She then worked as a GI and Liver Pathologist at Yale University School of Medicine from 1992-1994. She joined TUHSC in 1994 and is at present an Associate Professor & Head, Gastrointestinal & Liver Pathology.

Dr. Haque has special expertise in acute and chronic inflammatory conditions of the bowel, gastrointestinal neoplasm, adult and pediatric hepatobiliary diseases as well as in immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Dr. Haque has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals including American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Human Pathology, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Laboratory Investigation, Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. and Hepatology . She has been sought after regionally as a lecturer and resource in gastrointestinal pathology.

John R. Krause, M.D. is a hematopathologist with over 25 years experience in this area. He received his pathology and hematopathology training at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Krause is currently The Chairman of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Krause has special expertise in hematopathology with special emphasis on Lymphomas/Leukemias. He is also the Director of the Flow Cytometry Laboratory and the Molecular Diagnostic’s Laboratory. Dr. Krause is recognized locally and nationally for his work in hematopathology

SPECIMEN INFORMATION:

When possible endoscopic biopsies should be oriented on filter/lens paper in the endoscopy suite. After orientation the specimen should be placed upside down in fixative, preferably 10% zinc formalin. Biopsy specimen from different sites or levels should be submitted in different containers. An information sheet containing relevant pertinent data is enclosed to facilitate a proper interpretation of the biopsy findings. All tissue blocks and microscopic slides will be retained unless the referring physician requests their return.
