After completing residency at the University of Virginia, Dr. Harper joined a large group practice in Lake Charles from which he retired in 1998. During private practice, he had an interest in medical retinal diseases. After private practice, Dr. Harper accepted a position at the VA Medical Center in Alexandria engaging in the care of veterans and assisting with the clinical instruction of the residents. Dr. Harper was appointed as the Chief of Ophthalmology in 2005. His outside interests are primarily bird hunting and big game bow hunting which has taken him to several continents.
