Dr. “Joan” Cheng received her B.S. in Biology from Duke University at Durham, North Carolina. She then earned her medical doctorate at Tulane University School of Medicine in 1990. She completed her residency at the State University Hospital of New York at Stony Brook in New York, after which she pursued her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. She accepted an academic faculty appointment with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tulane University School of Medicine in 1997, where she later was promoted to Section Chief of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology. She has received her board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1998 and her sup-specialty board certification in Gynecologic Oncology in 2001.
She is actively involved as Tulane’s Principal Investigator in a variety of national cooperative clinical trial groups, including Gynecologic Oncology Group and the Southwestern Oncology Group, which investigate new and effective treatments for gynecologic cancers.
