Resident Assistance Program
Tulane’s Resident Assistance Program (RAP) is a confidential counseling and referral service for Tulane Medical School residents.
One goal of the program is to encourage self referral so that you can be helped with training issues, personal and marital concerns before they lead to more serious difficulties.
A second goal is to identify, intervene, arrange treatment (if necessary) so as to rehabilitate those impaired residents so as to reduce risk to patients and restore residents to health and effective training and practice. Identified residents are often referred by the chairman of their department or their program director but they may request a consultation on their own.
A complete range of in-patient and out-patient psychiatric services are available to Tulane House Officers and their immediate family. These services include intensive individual and group psychotherapy for individuals and couples, medication management, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation and after care.
When you call you will reach Dr. Greve’s answering service (588-1591) and he will return your call promptly and discuss your issues. He may arrange an appointment with you in his office (5 minutes from the medical school) to discuss various options. These discussions are completely confidential.
Your privacy is an important element of the RAP program. The RAP coordinator is a contractor who is completely independent of your department. His office is located outside of the medical school. All conversations, over the telephone or in person, are confidential. The only exceptions are when residents are referred by their department because of possible impairment, and then only pertinent information will be given to the appropriate chairman or program director.
Dr. Greve is the RAP coordinator. He completed his undergraduate, medical and residency education at Tulane. For twenty five years, he was in private practice and taught at LSUMC-S. He has worked with residents throughout his career. Currently he is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tulane Medical School and LSUMC and he has a private practice.
