Clinical Research:
Clinical
trials are important barometers for the future. The extensive
research performed by many pharmaceutical companies lend credence
to the idea that there exists a pressing need to develop new
and improved medications to combat an ever-changing picture
of medical challenges. At Tulane, we have enjoyed a wide array
of dermatological clinical trials that support this axiom.
At
Tulane, the Clinical Research Unit of the Department of Dermatology
is structured to produce the maximum effect on patient care.
It is under the direction of Erin E. Boh, M.D.,
Ph.D. The supporting staff is composed of four members who work
in concert to provide quality medical care to all study participants
as well as quality workmanship to its sponsors. The CRU staff
is under the supervision of Edward
Coleman, M.S..
Although
Dr. Boh serves as principle investigator for most of
the clinical trials conducted at Tulane, she has diplomatically
shared the duties with several members of her faculty. Other
faculty members who serve as principal investigators and co-investigators
of different clinical trials include Joseph
P. Shrum, M.D. For all, the experience
represents a different perspective of patient care and maintenance.
In addition, they are able to gain invaluable knowledge from
the clinical data produced by these trials. From this knowledge,
they are able to extrapolate and create other avenues of treatment
to facilitate better results in those patients who consistently
fail conventional medications and/or procedures.
We
actively accept patients into a variety of studies. For more information concerning
ongoing clinical trials, eligibility criteria, plus an update
on future trials at Tulane, please call the
CRU at 504-988-7624 . Additionally, for your convenience,
calls received after hours will be transferred directly to
our answering machine.
