Disability Services

Dear Prospective Tulanian:

On behalf of the Office of Disability Services, I congratulate you on being accepted to Tulane University School of Medicine. If you are a student with a disability, you may be eligible for accommodations at Tulane depending upon your disability and the documentation that you provide. In this letter, you will find valuable information regarding the process of officially registering a disability at Tulane.

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) within the Educational Resources and Counseling Center handles student requests for accommodations. If you think you may need disability services or accommodations, we strongly encourage you to make appropriate arrangements over the summer, before the beginning of your first semester. Decisions about disability services are made on an individual basis after a careful review of each student's disability documentation. The accommodations determined to be reasonable and appropriate at Tulane University may not necessarily be the same as those received in high school or in undergraduate studies.

If you are a student with a disability and wish to request accommodations, please follow the following procedure:

Step One: Complete and return an Accommodation Packet which contains:
  1. a Request for Accommodations Form,
  2. a Confidentiality Form, and
  3. Documentation Guidelines
You can download the Accommodation Packet from the following internet address:
http://www.erc.tulane.edu/disability
If you have any difficulty downloading the Accommodation Packet, you may call (504) 862-8433 and request one by mail.

Step Two: Send required updated documentation listed in the Guidelines for Documentation of a Disability.

Step Three: The Office of Disability Services staff will review the information to determine which reasonable accommodation(s) Tulane will approve for you. You will be contacted by ODS.

Please do not wait until you arrive on campus to initiate your request for disability services or accommodations as the process of gathering all necessary documents and completing the review process can be lengthy. It is in your best interest to begin the process as soon as possible after you have made the decision to attend Tulane University School of Medicine. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We look forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely,

David J. Tylicki, MS
Manager, Office of Disability Services
