INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS WHICH MAY BE HELPFUL IN EXTRAMURAL SELECTION AND RESIDENCY APPLICATION

1. "The Green Book" - Published by the AMA, listing every approved residency program in all specialties in the United States; grouped by state and by city. The Green Book also identifies the program director to whom you are writing for information and applications.

2. "The Purple Book" - with lists, descriptions, and addresses of all flexible internships.

3. Catalogs or brochures from some American medical schools, listing and describing senior selective clerkships. Some medical schools have their catalogs on the Internet.

4. Directory of Family Practice Programs - containing descriptions of programs.

5. Directory of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Programs.

6. Directory of Pathology Programs - containing descriptions of programs.

7. "The Red Book" of Surgery - containing descriptions and rankings of surgery programs in the United States.

8. Internship lists that list the recent graduates, what specialty they entered, and where they are presently located.

9. Brochures and folders containing information on senior clerkships in the United Kingdom, Australia, developing countries, etc.

10. Through the years I have built up files on various residency programs around the country. The information was gathered from students who interned or did their residencies at those programs, who did senior selective clerkships at those programs, or who interviewed there. The information is rather extensive and is written in long hand. I will be happy to meet with any student who wishes to discuss any program about which I may have pertinent information.
