CAREER PLANNING
Choosing a specialty is one of the more difficult decisions medical students
will have to make. Many students enter medical school with a career plan in
mind, but studies show that over 50% of students change their mind during
medical school. On this website, we have attempted to include information
valuable in making residency choices. The most important and best resource
available is the Careers in Medicine website hosted by the Association of
American Medical Colleges (AAMC). This website includes self study exercises
to help match your interests and abilities with specific specialties. The
website also offers specialty-specific information that is useful in choosing
a career. We will not duplicate this resource but will provide Tulane-specific
information for you to use in planning your careers. We would like to draw your
attention to:
- Tulane suggested career planning timeline,
- Tulane faculty who are resources for career advice,
- The AAMC Careers in Medicine link, and
- A sample Standard Student CV. (Microsoft Word Document)
- Residency Application Timeline (PDF Format)
Good luck on this process.
