A MESSAGE FROM THE
ASSISTANT DEAN for STUDENT AFFAIRS
Jan A. Cooper, M.D.

The Tulane University School of Medicine is at the forefront of academia, research and clinical medicine. Our medical students are an integral part of our success. As our communities are made up of a diversity of people, we strive to recruit and retain an equally diverse group of stuents, who will one day be their physicians. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and have a wide spectrum of interests and college majors. Once a student is enrolled in our medical school, we are committed to ensuring that he or she grows to the fullest potential academically, while at the same time maintaining a healthy personal life. We also encourage our students to maintain an active role in communtiy service while in medical school, as one of our main goals is to promote healty lifestyles to the public, especially in under-served areas.

As Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Minority Affairs Officer, I am in the unique position of having the time and resources to devote to all of our students, and in particular, to address any issues pertaining to our minority students. I want all of our students to feel free to come see me in the Student Affairs Office--if they have a problem, a question, or just want to talk. Medical school is a stressful time for all students, and our office is here to help.
