The Foundations in Medicine course provides the grounding in the physician-patient
relationship that is central to all of medical practice. It includes medical
interviewing, medical ethics, community preceptorships, service learning,
preventive medicine, human behavior and the healthcare system as well
as other topics and issues important for contemporary medicine. The course
uses large and small group discussions and extensive field experiences
emphasizing patient and community contact. It meets every Tuesday and
Thursday afternoon throughout the first year.
