This animation shows fertilization of the egg with implantation in the fallopian tube wall. The growing placenta and fetus ultimately rupture the tube, leading to hemorrhage (symptoms typically begin between 4 and 6 weeks after conception). The normal increase in hCG is attenuated as the pregnancy outgrows its site, a mass in the adnexa may be palpable and visible by ultrasound, and culdocentesis may obtain blood.
