Coronal T1 weighted MRI following the administration of contrast reveals a large hypothalamic mass which is somewhat lobulated but well-defined. The findings are typical for hypothalamic glioma in a child. The differential diagnosis would include other suprasellar lesions such as a solid craniopharyngioma.
