
This section shows a lateral photograph of a newborn baby who shows lack of the calvarium.The forebrain area has been replaced by a flattened remnant of disorganized brain tissue, membranes, blood vessels, ependyma and choroid plexus. Note that the ears are set low in the head, and that there is prominence of both eye globes. Also notice that the neck is very short. Diagnosis: Anencephaly.
