This slide represents a coronal section of a newborn brain that has been embedded in celoidin and stained with cresyl violet. The section is made at the level of the caudate nuclei, anterior limb of internal capsule, putamen and globus pallidus. The section shows the germinal matrix. The germinal matrix is seen as a blue dark band of tissue in the periventricular area close to the caudate nuclei . There is also germinal matrix around the temporal horn of the lateral ventricles. Diagnosis: Normal neonatal brain, section stained with cresyl violet.
