This slide shows a brain with attached dura as viewed from above. The dura is reflected to the left side of the brain. The slide shows the bridging veins that connect the cortical superficial veins to the sagittal sinus in the dura. When there is brain atrophy these bridging veins are easily stretched, can rupture, and produce subdural hematomas.
