"Liver Function Test" Panels
Related laboratory tests may be collected into groups called "panels" for convenience in ordering. A typical liver function test panel might include:
- Total Protein
- Albumin
- Total bilirubin
- AST
- ALT
- Alkaline Phosphatase
- The panel is for convenience only and isn't required in all cases: order what is needed based on the clinical presentation
- Once the diagnosis is set, it's unnecessary to continue ordering the entire panel, plus confirmatory tests (ALT and GGT) merely to follow the disease
