Hypopituitarism: gonadotropins
Hypopituitarism: growth hormone (GH)
Hypopituitarism: thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
Gonadtropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulation test: lack of an increase in gonadotropins over the baseline indicates an anterior pituitary disorder, while an eventual rise indicates a hypothalamic releasing factor disorder.
Stimulation with sleep, L-dopa, L-arginine: lack of an increase in GH or somatomedins indicates an anterior pituitary or hypothalamic disorder. Insulin tolerance test: hypoglycemia is a potent stimulus for both GH and ACTH.
Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) stimulating test: lack of an increase in TSH indicates an anterior pituitary disorder, while an eventual rise indicates a hypothalmic problem.
