Endocrine System and Hormones
One of the first systems recognized for intercellular communication.
Classic definition: a chemical secreted in one location that produce effects, often at a distance, on another part of the body (e.g. thyroid hormone, corticosteroids and pituitary hormones).
Hormones may act locally or through the circulation (e.g. catecholamines), but produced at a variety of sites.
