Centrilobular emphysema

CENTRILOBULAR EMPHYSEMA, GROSS - The respiratory bronchioles and some alveolar ducts in the proximal and middle portion of the pulmonary lobule are destroyed resulting in holes or emphysematous spaces being formed. There are small amounts of black pigment surrounding the emphysematous changes, probably anthracotic pigment from smoking.
