CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE AND TRANSPLANTATION - Introduction

• Synonymous with ESKD (end-stage kidney disease)
• Diagnosis is based on persistently high serum creatinine
• End-result of diseases with poor prognosis, i.e. glomerular or interstitial
• Biopsy is non-contributory
• Imaging shows bilateral small kidneys
• Does not respond to medical therapy
• Treated with dialysis or transplantation
