metastatic pyelonephritis

This is one pole of a kidney showing metastatic pyelonephritis. The small white specks you see on the surface are actually metastatic abscesses in an individual with streptococcal septicemia. The large scars you see on the surface represent the healed remnants of chronic pyelonephritis.
