S9C29aP20a-3: In a zone of necrobiosis in this lesion of NLD, green arrows identify a zone of necrosis with leukocytoclasia; purple arrow identify zones of fibrinoid; and red arrows identify zones in which hyalinized collagen bundles are arranged in parallel arrays. |

S9C29aP20a-4: In this lesion of NLD (see S9C29aP20a-2: purple arrows), defects are outlined by convoluted membranes (membranous lipodystrophy). Red arrows identify a zone of hyalinization. Compare this pattern with the adjacent zone of fibrinoid necrosis (just to the left of the hyalinized fibrous tissue). |

S9C29aP20a-5: Red arrows outline a palisaded granuloma in this lesion of NLD (same case as preceding 4 illustrations). Histiocytes are arranged in traceries among altered collagen bundles. |

S9C29aP20a-6: The hyalinized fibrous tissue shows fluffy red deposits among the collagen bundles; these red deposits are fibrinoid. The vessel at the bottom of the field (red arrows) shows a proliferative endarteritis with occlusion of the lumen. Near the endothelial layer there are a few neutrophils. This vasculopathy apparently has had a role in the formation of large areas of necrosis in this example of NLD. |

S9C29aP20a-7: Collagen bundles are” rigid” (straight). They are parallel to the surface of the skin and are hyalinized. The lymphoid infiltrates at the bottom of the field contain a high component of plasma cells. |

S9C29aP20a-8: Focally, in this lesion of NLD, plasma cells are a prominent component of the infiltrates.
