S5C16P10-LE-misc

S5C16P10-1: Senescent lichenoid patterns of DLE. The follicles, which are well on their way to atrophy, show follicular ectasia and “plugging.” The upper 1/3 of the dermis also shows atrophy and telangiectasia.

S5C16P10-2: Interface changes of DLE include vacuolar degeneration, cytolysis, and coagulation necrosis of individual basal cells (apoptosis with patterns in keeping with satellite cell necrosis) (green arrows). Blue arrows point to reduplicated basement membrane with hyalinosis.

S5C16P10-3: DLE with epidermal hyperplasia and follicular plugging to the right. On the left, the pale area of the reticular dermis represents dermal mucinosis. In this area, collagen bundles are reduced in number and size; they are more widely spaced .

S5C16P10-4: In the upper portion of the dermis to the left in the area showing the most prominent degree of mucinosis, the epidermis is relatively thin and rete patterns are relatively preserved.

S5C16P10-5: In this area, the patterns are those of classic DLE. Note the prominence of lymphoid infiltrates at the extremities of follicle-like extensions in contrast to the degree of inflammation at the dermal-epidermal interface.

S5C16P10-6: Classic changes of a lesion of DLE are represented. There are focal reduplications of basement membrane (blue arrow). The clear areas in the papillary dermis are zones of edema.
