S4C26P18-Lichen Aureus

S4C26P18-1:  In the category of the pigmented purpuras, lichen aureus often is histologically distinctive. The infiltrates tend to be confluent in the upper portion of the reticular dermis and in  the papillary dermis. The infiltrates are lymphohistiocytic; they often are rich in histiocytes. Extravasated red blood cells and hemosiderin deposits, if represented, are an aid in diagnosis.

S4C26P18-2: In this field, the infiltrates are composed of histiocytes and lymphocytes. The dermis is fibrotic. There is an increased number of blood vessels in the inflamed, widened papillary dermis (lichen aureus ).

S4C26P18-3: The infiltrates are lymphohistiocytic in character.

S4C26P18-4: At the interface with the reticular dermis, histiocytes are pigmented; the pigment is hemosiderin.
