S1C18aP8a-Hidradenitis
Suppurativa

S1C18aP8a-1: The epidermis shows acanthosis and elongation of rete ridges. A sinus tract lined by hyperplastic squamous epithelium extends into the dermis from the surface near the right hand margin. It extends through the upper portion of the dermis to the opposite margin on the left. The tract is outlined by granulation tissue (hidradenitis suppurativa).

S1C18aP8a-2: The sinus tract is lined by hyperplastic squamous epithelium. The neighboring granulation tissue contains infiltrates of chronic inflammatory cells. Beneath the granulation tissue, the dermis is fibrotic. The patterns in large part are of a type commonly manifested in follicular occlusive disorders (hidradenitis suppurativa).

S1C18aP8a-3: The epithelium lining the sinus tract is hyperplastic; keratinocytes are pale. Two small, rounded defects in the epithelium contain neutrophils; they are microabscesses. The epithelium is supported by inflamed granulation tissue.

S1C18aP8a-4: Neutrophils have migrated into the epithelium; they have collected in rounded defects (micro-abscesses); the lesion focally has suppurative qualities.
