S15C4P1-Sarcomatoid Melanoma
BuiltWithNOF

S15C4P1-1: At the surface of the skin, the lesion is only slightly polypoid; the epidermis over the lesion is ulcerated. The cells of the tumor are arranged in a patternless pattern. The lesion is circumscribed, but not encapsulated.

S15C4P1-2: The patterns are similar to those of Fig. S15C4P1-1, but the epidermis is not ulcerated. Lentiginous and junctional patterns are not a prominent feature.

S15C4P1-3:The infiltrates of tumor cells form sheets; discrete nests of cells are not a feature. The pattern is patternless; it is sarcomatoid.

S15C4P1-4: Atypical spindle cells have pale cytoplasm; nuclei are oval in outline with dense chromatin. Green arrows point to multinucleated, histiocytic type giant cells.

S15C4P1-5: Tumor cells are spindle shaped with oval, hyperchromatic nuclei. Green arrows point to the distinctive giant cells. There are scattered mitotic figures (red arrows).

S15C4P1-6: Bordering an area of degeneration, tumor cells are more loosely spaced.

S15C4P1-7: The spindle cells of the tumor show a uniform degree of cytologic atypia. Mitoses are numerous. There are collections of extravasated red blood cells.
