S15C3P2-Pigmented Purpura

S15C3P2-1: The epidermis shows a normal keratin layer. There is effacement of the rete ridges. Perivenular infiltrates of lymphoid cells are present in the upper portion of the dermis; infiltrates are mild and somewhat band-like (interstitial) at the interface between the papillary dermis and the reticular dermis. The patterns qualify as those of a superficial lichenoid lymphocytic vasculitis.

S15C3P2-2: Focally, the infiltrates extend into the basal unit of the epidermis; in these areas, the patterns are those of a cell-poor lichenoid reaction. Reactions of this type may be seen in the clinical setting of the pigmented purpuras.

S15C3P2-3:The patterns at the dermal-epidermal interface are those of a lichenoid reaction.

S15C3P2-4: Lymphoid cells and migratory histiocytes have migrated into the basal unit of a thin epidermis. There are vacuolar changes at the dermal-epidermal interface.
