S13C24aaP22aa-1: Lymphoid cells in the epidermis show enlargement of nuclei and variations in nuclear size and outline. The basal unit is hyperplastic; the patterns are pityriasic. There is a collection of
extravasated red blood cells in the papillary dermis to the right side of the field. Some of the nuclei of lymphoid cells in the epidermis are enlarged and hyperchromatic (blue arrows) (same case as S13C24P22-6).
S13C24aaP22aa-2: Nuclei of lymphoid cells vary in size and outline. Blue arrows identify some of the cells whose nuclear characteristic qualify as atypical. The lesion qualifies as “atypical” pityriasis
lichenoides; atypia of this type in a lesion of pityriasis lichenoides is relatively common. The pigmented dendrites of melanocytes extend among keratinocytes of the basal unit of the epidermis.
