S13C21P19-Bowenoid Dysplasia

S13C21P19-1:The epidermis shows hyperplasia of the basal unit and an even greater hyperplasia of the superficial unit. There is a zone of parakeratosis at the surface. Focally, keratinocytes of the superficial unit show perinuclear vacuolization. The affected cells also show enlargement of the nuclei and variations in nuclear size and outline ( koilocytosis). The patterns basically are those seen in lesions of condyloma acuminatum.

S13C21P19-2: At higher magnification, the atypia in the areas of koilocytosis is moderate. There are scattered, atypical, dyskeratotic cells and occasional mitotic figures. The lesion shows markers for a papilloma virus infection but, from another perspective, the changes qualify as a moderate keratinocytic dysplasia (atypical condyloma acuminatum). In this lesion, a transitional stage from infection to mild/moderate dysplasia is represented; the lesion is at the borderland between verruca and keratinocytic dysplasia of bowenoid type.

S13C21P19-3: Nuclei are enlarged; some contain prominent nucleoli. Nuclei vary in size, outline, and staining (atypical condyloma acuminatum).
