S11C9P4-1: In this lesion of tuberculoid leprosy, the infiltrates extend to the dermal-epidermal interface. The infiltrates, in this field, are mostly perivascular in distribution. There are small areas of
fibrinoid necrosis. Lymphocytes are sprinkled among the histiocytes in some areas.
S11C9P4-2: Histiocytes are closely clustered and have acidophilic cytoplasm. They form tubercle-like aggregates. Lymphocytes are loosely spaced among the histiocytes near the periphery of some of the
tubercle-like aggregates. Organisms often are few in number in lesion at this pole of the spectrum.
S11C9P4-3: Tuberculoid leprosy with a focal area of fibrinoid necrosis at the top of the field. There are numerous histiocytic giant cells. Giant cells are a feature of the tuberculoid portion of the histologic spectrum.
