S10C6P4-Lobular Patterns

S10C6P4-1: In this field, the patterns are those of a relatively pure lobular panniculitis. There are interstitial infiltrates of inflammatory cells among lipocytes; septa are not significantly involved.

S10C6P4-2: Neutrophils are prominent in the interstitial infiltrates; the histologic features are of a type emphasized in the diagnosis of Weber-Christian disease. It should be noted that, near the bottom of the field on the right, some of the cell-walls of partially collapsed lipocytes have pulled away from the supporting, inflamed interstitium. None of the rounded defects of this field can be identified as a marker for viable lipocytes; eccentric nuclei of viable lipocytes are not represented.

S10C6P4-3: In this field at a higher magnification, the infiltrates are mixed; they are composed of neutrophils, histiocytes and lymphocytes. There are fragments of nuclear debris (Weber-Christian disease).
