Tulane Cancer Center
Matching Funds Program

Since its founding, the Tulane Cancer Center has supported the training of young scientists studying cancer through training grants that match peer-reviewed support from federal and private sources. Since 1994, 123 grants totaling $1,166,750 have been awarded to Tulane cancer trainees. Over the years, Cancer Crusaders and The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation have been the major benefactors whose generosity has made this support possible. On behalf of the Tulane Community, the Tulane Cancer Center extends warm thanks to our benefactors and best wishes for continued success to this year's awardees.

How to Apply
The Tulane Cancer Center is committed to the enhancement of training in basic and clinical cancer research on our campus. Tulane Cancer Center funds must be matched by competitive grant funds or by institutional funds. Applications are submitted on an annual basis, usually during April, and awards are made mid-May. Acceptance of this award does not disqualify you from submitting an application in a subsequent competition for Cancer Center Support. You may apply for support of another student or fellow or for continued support of the same student or fellow. A maximum of two years of support for a postdoctoral fellow and a maximum of three years of support for a graduate student is permitted. All requests for support are reviewed on a competitive basis. The Tulane Cancer Center requires that you submit a report one year from the activation of this grant. The progress report should include the following:
  1. A brief description of the work performed.
  2. A complete list of publications by the student or fellow who was supported by these funds.
  3. The source of funds for support of the fellow or student beyond the expiration of this grant.
  4. Any competitive research or training grants received by the student or fellow.
  5. Any new competitive, peer-reviewed funds acquired by you as a result of the research productivity supported by this grant.
  6. A complete record of funds expended from this grant.

In addition, we require an annual report at two and three years beyond the anniversary date of this award. The annual report should be brief and should include all publications that resulted from this award, all peer reviewed funding obtained by the student or fellow supported by these funds, and an updated bibliography of the fellow or student supported by this grant. This support should be acknowledged on all publications as follows: "Partial support provided from developmental funds of the Tulane Cancer Center." Two copies of all publications bearing this acknowledgment should be submitted to the Cancer Center.
