The Tulane Chapter, Alpha of Louisiana, was established December 10, 1914. The student members were C.W.
Arrendell, W.O. Calleway, R.E. Graham, J.G. McLaurin, J.M. Perret, P.L. Querens, J.F. Balwin, J.W. Faulk,
A.H. Gladden, and P.A. Taylor. The faculty members were Drs. J.T. Halsey, Justav Mann, Erving Hardesty,
Jos. D. Weis, and C.W. Allen.
The records suggest that Alpha Chapter was not active for four years. There is no correspondence on record
with the national AOA office to clarify this situation. National records do not date to before 1934.
In the fall of 1918, the first minutes in the records note:
The first meeting of the Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Fraternity
at Tulane University was held on Monday, November 25, 1918 in the Touro Infirmary at 8:00 p.m. The meeting
was called to order by the President, Mr. Wilkes A. Knolle. Those present were the following: Dr.
Feingold, Dr. Potts, Dr. Gage, Dr. Bloom, Dr. Faust, Dr. Knolle, Miss Maher. The group voted against
changing the quota of one-sixth of the graduating class to one-fifth. Suggestion by Dr. Feingold that
Alpha Omega Alpha members of the graduating class be indicated on the programs and "that the same be
announced by the Dean from the platform at graduation exercise" was supported.
